The arrival
Hola Todos!
A beautiful sunrise in the mountains
of central Costa Rica pulled us from our beds this
morning. Although our elevation is only about 2150
feet, it seems we are much higher as the clouds settle
into the lush green hills around us like cool blankets.
The skies are crystal blue in the morning and we are
enjoying warm afternoon thunderstorms. In the village
of Tuis, we are as likely to see a man riding a horse
past our window as one riding a dirt bike, both are
common forms of transportation.
Yesterday was spent shopping, touring
the city of Turrialba and learning how to use the
local bus system to get around. We became acquainted
with one of our language professors when he dropped
by the house to give us a pop quiz. Within hours on
the ground we were already trying to think in espanol.
And our day ended as we enjoyed a Costa Rican welcome
dinner at the school. It was precious to hear how
the prayers of Hector, the Director of the local mission,
prepared the way to bring us to this remote place
of the world to learn and to minister to his people.
We are excited to see what God is going to do with
our time here.
Praises:
Travel was safe and we have experienced NO sickness
as of yet. (except Jenni's motion sickness, which
she would say was life threatening)
We feel very safe in our new close knit neighborhood.
We are officially immersed in the Costa Rican culture
and language, it is sink or swim now!
The children each made one friend today and have spent
several hours trying to figure out what on earth the
others are saying.
The water is SAFE for drinking, swimming, toothbrushing
and washing!

The closest large town, which is a thirty minute bus
ride,Turriabla.

Coffee with our new friend and tour guide, Sade.

Testing out those new ponchos.

Our home for the next two months. Que bonita!
These trees in the local parque were
filled with sleeping slothes. Later we enjoyed walking
to school in the rain.
