TOURS ATHLETES/COACHES
It
stops us in our tracks to see God move. What's even
more amazing is experiencing him working through us.
But
even better yet is when God uses us while enjoying
the sport we love.
We
have a unique opportunity for you to give your sport
to God. Consider traveling with a team of other young
athletes this summer. The Varsity Teams lead week-long
sports camps with churches by helping share Christ
with elementary age kids through soccer, football,
cheer leading, and soccer. The Lay It Down Teams help
student ministries across the country reach boarders,
bladers, and bikers through relational ministry in
skate parks and through hosting competitions with
churches on our mobile park.
People
entering their senior year of high school and older
are invited to travel with a team for half or all
of the summer. All team members go through a week
of training at the beginning of the summer and take
off the week of July 4th. Although these missionary
athletes are volunteers, SportReach covers their expenses
for food, lodging, and gear.

TOURS LEADERS
Invest
in a team of young athletes as they lead hundreds
of kids to Jesus this summer. SportReach hosts week
long camps in partnership with churches to introduce
kids to Christ. College-age athletes travel from city
to city coaching soccer, basketball, volleyball, and
football clinics or reaching out to boarders, bikers,
and bladers in skate parks and hosting local competitions.
The Team Leaders disciple and guide the teams' overall
spiritual growth and service to God.
The
first area of focus is the development of the traveling
sports ministry team. The leaders oversee the individual
and corporate well-being of their team. This includes
meeting weekly to mentor each team member, leading
Bible studies for the entire team's spiritual growth,
and fostering unity to ensure the strength of each
team. The Team Leader's aim is to have their team
ready to serve however God leads.
The
second area is overseeing the team's ministry with
the local churches. The Team Leader begins by briefing
him or herself on the previously established ministry
plan and expectations of the church. They then maintain
good communication between the church leaders and
traveling team throughout each week. The leaders are
responsible for ensuring a strong partnership between
the local church and SportReach.
It
is exciting to see who God calls to lead the teams
each year. Although not necessary, SportReach has
found married couples often make great Team Leaders.
Other important qualities to succeed as a leaders
are a strong faith in Jesus Christ, experience discipling
people, church ministry involvement, mature communication
skills, and a passion for using sports to reach new
people.
The
Team Leaders are trained and supported by the SportReach
staff. Prior to the team training for each tour, two
days are set aside just for equipping the leaders.
The needed skills of team building, spiritual discipleship,
and sports ministry programming are covered. Each
Team Leader also has a staff member investing in them
as they pour their lives into their own teams throughout
the tours.
Similar
to team members, the leaders can ask for financial
support from individuals desiring to partner in this
investment of young athletes and the many kids they
reach. SportReach also matches a set level of initial
donations and pays each Team Leader a $250 honorarium
for each five-week tour. Plus, all expenses for travel
with the team, lodging in host homes, meals, apparel,
and entertainment are covered for everyone on the
teams.
